As an international community, Knox prides itself on offering the highest levels of support for our English Language Learners. 

The purpose of the ENL curriculum is to support non-native English speakers in their academic performance and college readiness. ENL student needs are met through daily instruction that integrates the core skills of reading, writing, listening, and speaking into a holistic learning experience, with an end-goal of developing competency in these areas. Ultimately, the ENL program enables these students to converse with ease in English and prepares students for the TOEFL, SAT, and other standardized testing in preparation for admission to selective American colleges and universities. 

Knox offers two levels of learning support based on a student’s baseline proficiency as measured by his/her most current TOEFL exam. In lieu of a TOEFL score, IELTS or Duolingo score conversions serve as a guide for New Applicant placement only and are subject to change.

ENL Program Descriptions

The Department of Academics reserves the right to administer placement exams for students upon arrival and each year they are actively enrolled in the ENL program to measure progress and inform teaching and learning practices.
