Mateja Markovic '20
Mateja Markovic entered Knox in 2016 as a 9th grade student from Belgrade, Serbia, and has positively impacted our School culture ever since. Participating in activities such as the Knox Musicians Club, where he plays drums, trombone, flute, and sings, the Mock Trial Club, and exhibiting leadership skills as a Dorm Proctor, Mateja brings enthusiasm to all of his Knox experiences. His enthusiasm for diverse interests is also evident in his prospects for college studies, as he is considering becoming a designer, architect, doctor or engineer. Although he is still insure of his career-path at this point, one thing that is for certain is that Mateja’s “dream college” is Cornell University.
Recently, Mateja has become recognized for his athletic talent on the Knox Crew Team. Last year, he represented Knox by competing in the New York State Scholastic Rowing Championships in Saratoga Springs, New York, in the juniors double’s category with partner Hieu Bui. This was the first invitation The Knox School has received to compete at The State Championships. He continues this strong record in the 2017-2018 school year, as he has already taken home the gold-medal in a singles race at his home-campus regatta.
In addition to his strong athleticism in Crew, Mateja takes tremendous risk with his extracurricular activities. In the Spring of last year, he took one of the leading roles of Nazi political Agent Ernst Ludwig in the production of Cabaret, and sang several songs in the Spring Performing Arts Concert Extravaganza (SPACE).
The Knox School is proud to have Mateja as a member of our community and we foresee a positive and bright future for this energetic and talented young man!
