Founded in 1904, The Knox School is an independent, coeducational college preparatory boarding and day school serving students in grades 6–12 on a picturesque 35-acre waterfront campus on Long Island’s North Shore, just 90 minutes from New York City. For more than 120 years, Knox has remained intentionally small because we believe students thrive when they are known as individuals, challenged to reach their potential, and supported by educators invested in their success. With a 6:1 student-teacher ratio, an average class size of 12, and students representing more than 18 countries, Knox offers a close-knit, globally diverse community where every student is seen, valued, and understood. Because faculty know students well, they are able to recognize emerging interests, encourage new challenges, and help students discover opportunities they may never have pursued on their own.

Personalized by Design

No two Knox students follow exactly the same path. Beginning in grade 9, students work with a dedicated college counselor to develop an academic plan that reflects their interests, strengths, and aspirations while opening doors to leadership opportunities, extracurricular involvement, and experiences that extend learning beyond the classroom.

Students can challenge themselves through 35 Advanced Placement and Honors courses spanning the arts, humanities, mathematics, and sciences, or earn college credit through 20 College Equivalency courses taught by Knox faculty on campus in partnership with local universities. Those with a particular passion can pursue a concentration in Business, Criminal Justice, Education, Health Science, Performance, STEM & Engineering, Visual Arts, or Liberal Arts, allowing them to explore an area of interest in greater depth. Each concentration culminates in a Senior Capstone Project, providing students with the opportunity to conduct meaningful research, demonstrate their learning, and showcase their accomplishments as they prepare for college and beyond.

Learning at Knox extends far beyond the academic day.
