Home Beside the Shore
Knox is more than just a boarding school, it’s our home! Boarding and Day students have the opportunity to find and pursue their interests in a safe, family atmosphere. “Knoxies”, as we like to call ourselves, experience the richness of our diverse culture from many different avenues. We strive to build a culture of community that permeates the student body, so much so that we built a period into our day called “community period.” Community period is time for the school to come together to celebrate birthdays and achievements, or explore interests in one of our dynamic and student-tailored clubs, or meet with an advisor to set goals and discuss relevant topics that teenagers face today, or make time to meet a teacher for extra help, or have a class or red/white meeting. Our Community period was built for you, the student, as a time to turn off your academic brain for an hour and be yourself.
At the heart of our culture are the Red/White competitions. Every student, faculty, and staff member at Knox must go through what we call the “team choosing”, where you are either selected to be part of the Red Team or the White Team. Once you are selected for your team you are a member of that team for life! Some say the choosing is random but most of us know better, we know it’s destiny! Throughout the year Knoxies engage in competitions, Red Vs. White, to accumulate points all with the goal in mind of winning the cherished Red/White cup.
Although Knox is our home, sometimes Knoxies just need to get off campus a bit to experience the rest of the world. That is why students are offered a plethora of weekend trips, something for everyone! From trips to New York City to catch a play or explore a museum, to local hotspot like the indoor trampoline park or laser tag. Students have the opportunity to explore their own interests by being able to suggest a trip.
