In this information session, Director of Admissions Caitlyn Adams-Davis interviews Knox Alumni and current students about their personal experiences participating in the many Knox Traditions, such as Gym Night, Senior Singing, the Lantern Parade, and more. Viewers will also receive a brief history lesson about The Knox School, the Land of Clover, Founder Mary Alice Knox, and the changes that have occurred over the years that have added endless value to our Home Beside the Shore.

Social and Emotional Wellness

with School Social Worker Jennifer St. Amour, LCSW

The Knox School provides superior college preparatory academics to boarding and day school students on its beautiful and historic waterfront campus in Long Island, New York. In this Virtual Information Session, you will meet The Knox School’s Social Worker Jennifer St. Amour, LCSW and learn about wellness programs for middle and high school students such as Advisory, Men and Women’s Groups, and counseling. Because mental wellness is paramount in importance at Knox, Social/Emotional Learning (SEL) is fused into daily life as well as specialized programs, so that students gain tools for managing their emotions, handling conflicts, finding comfort when they are away from home, and other challenges that students face on a typical day. Mrs. St. Amour also describes the protocol for addressing more serious health and wellness concerns in this interview-style virtual discussion.

The Knox School provides superior college preparatory academics to boarding and day school students on its beautiful and historic waterfront campus in Long Island, New York. In this Virtual Information Session, you will meet Director of Health and Wellness Aimee Roderick, RN and Head of School Kristen Tillona-Baker, and learn about the various health and wellness programs that are offered to day-school and boarding school students. This interview-style discussion focuses on daily health and wellness efforts on campus, protocols for illness or injury of a student, wellness requirements that must be addressed for a student to attend school, and more. The School Leaders also discuss measures that were implemented in the Spring of 2020 during the arrival of COVID-19, and new procedures that will be introduced by the School to ensure a safe and healthy environment for students and staff as the School reopens for classes.

with Middle School Coordinator & Teacher Dana Fernandez

In this Virtual Information Session, you will meet Middle School Coordinator and Teacher Dana Fernandez who will provide an overview of the Middle School Program (grades 6, 7, and 8), highlighting academic offerings and support services, the class schedule, the small class sizes and more. Mrs. Fernandez and Student Ambassador Constantine T. also detail the Social/Emotional Learning curriculum provided in the Middle School Advisory Program, the Arts and Athletics, and what it means to be a boarding school student at Knox.

English as a New Language Information Session

with ENL and Mandarin Teacher Zuyi Wang

The Knox School provides superior college preparatory academics to boarding and day school students on its beautiful and historic waterfront campus in Long Island, New York. In this Virtual Information Session, you will meet English as a New Language (ENL) and Mandarin Teacher Zuyi Wang who will describe key features of Knox’s ENL Program, including the goals in educating International students to become proficient in reading, writing, listening and speaking the English language. Within this video content, viewers will also learn about the Program’s placement examination requirements, the three-tiered ENL program structure and class schedule, the level of expectations for student TOEFL scores, social/emotional wellness for International students and more.

STEM and The Sciences

with Science Department Chair Frank Chisena and STEM Coordinator Angelo Mauro

In this Virtual Information Session, Science Chair Frank Chisena provides an overview of the science offerings provided within The Knox School’s academic curriculum. Specialty curricular offerings including Honors, AP, and College Equivalency courses, as well as extracurricular offerings will be highlighted. STEM Coordinator Angelo Mauro will also showcase specialty programs offered at Knox including Robotics, 3D Printing, and more, directly from The Knox School’s state-of-the-art STEM Lab.

Athletics

In this Virtual Information Session, Athletics Director Majestic Mapp will provide a comprehensive overview of co-curricular and competitive sports offered at The Knox School. Premier athletics offering such as full-year team sports including equestrian, basketball, and crew will be showcased. Viewers will also receive an overview of the sport of Crew from Head Coach Liam Doughty, which is specifically noteworthy within Knox’s athletics portfolio of offerings due to the campus’s waterfront location on the Stony Brook Harbor in Saint James, New York.

Visual and Performing Arts

with Visual and Performing Arts Department Chair Andrew Wagner and Visual Arts Teacher Karyn Cernera Bush

In this virtual information session, Visual and Performing Arts Chair Andrew Wagner provides an overview of theatre, music, studio, and computer-based art programs that are an integral part of the overall academic curriculum at The Knox School. Highlighted courses within the VPA curriculum, including AP Art & Design and the college-equivalency course Electronic Illustration, is highlighted by teacher Karyn Bush. Extracurricular activities in the arts, including exhibits, fall, and spring theatre productions, art, fashion, and music clubs, and performing arts showcases called “Coffee House’s” is highlighted, and the team describes the on-campus art gallery and community arts outreach programs at local art galleries where students can exhibit their artwork to a larger audience.
