FAQ's

Does my child have to attend the same days each week?

No.  You can pick different days each week, but we need to know those days when you register and those are the days they must come.

However, the pricing is based on # of weeks & # of days, so if your child is coming 4 days one week and 2 days another week, you will be charged that way.

Are the groups co-ed?

The Tadpoles (children entering Kindergarten in the Fall) and the Sharks (those entering 7th and 8th Grades) are co-ed.  All the other age groups are same-sex.

Do the campers get to choose their activities?

No, the groups are on a rotating schedule of ½ hour periods (except for swim and kayaking, they have 2 periods for those to allow for changing)  There are more activities than there are periods in a day so they don’t get to every activity every day.  If they are not scheduled for Chess one day, chances are it will be on their schedule within the next 2 days.

My son is not very athletic, will he be forced to do something that he doesn’t want to do?

We have a wonderful staff of counselors, teachers and Directors that will try to encourage your child to try new things, but not to the point that they feel uncomfortable.

My child burns easily, will sunscreen be applied?

The children do spend a lot of time outside so we are diligent about sunscreen.  We ask that you send them to camp with sunscreen already applied, and we will reapply throughout the day.  You can send in your own if you want, but we have our own supply as well.

Will they get a chance to drink water throughout the day?

We strongly suggest that you send them to camp with a water bottle each day.  We have water coolers set up throughout the grounds and the children (and counselors) are encouraged to refill their water bottles constantly.

Can my child be placed in a group with their friend?

We allow one buddy request per camper.  The request must be reciprocated and the children must be attending the same days.  We do not guarantee them, but we do everything we can to accommodate your request as we understand that children feel a certain level of comfort in a new setting when there is a familiar face. Keep in mind that we also encourage the children to make new friends and sometimes that can be hindered if they are in a group of all “old friends.”

If my child is going to be in the Minnow program for 4 weeks of camp, is that considered 1 program, or 4?

That is considered one program.  If you were to add a Specialty program like Technology or Environmental Science, that would be considered two programs.

Do all campers get to ride the horses?

We have a separate riding program.  The riding program is limited and fills up very quickly.  Those campers are in the stables all day and do not participate in the regular camp activities.  They do swim at the end of the day in our pool.  The regular campers do not ride the horses, but they are exposed to them as they are out much of the day.

Is lunch included?

Yes, lunch is included as is a snack and ice-pop at the end of the day.

My child is a picky eater; will there be something for him to eat?

We have a great catering company that provides us with a healthy hot selection each day in addition to basic sandwiches, fruit, cereal, bagels, etc.  We haven’t had a problem satisfying even the pickiest of eaters.

Can I send in food with my child?

Due to food allergies, we want to have control over all the food on our campus, therefore we do not recommend that campers  bring their own lunch, but if they must, we ask that there be no nuts or nut products, this is very important.

My child has bad allergies and needs an Epi-pen.

We have an RN on staff that keeps all prescription medicines in her office.  She will require a written prescription form the doctor and we will set up a time for you to drop it off before camp starts.

My child has a serious fear of bees (dogs, birds, thunder, loud noises, spiders, water, etc), I want to make sure her counselor knows this.

We will send out a ‘Parent/Child Questionnaire” before camp which will give you the opportunity to tell us all about your child and his/her personality.  Each counselor gets a list of health considerations for their campers so they are aware of any personal issues that may be relevant.

Can my neighbor pick up my child at the end of the day if I can’t make it?

We have a system in place for dismissal placing your child’s safety first.  It will allow only those that you name to pick up your child.  More details will be given once you register and as we get closer to camp.

What about when it is really hot, or raining?

We pay close attention to the local weather reports.  In the case of extreme heat (heat advisory), we modify the activities to keep the children cooler and less physically active, and place sprinklers on the fields.  In the case of rain, we implement our rain schedule, which will bring the campers inside.  Obviously, they do not swim in this case.
