Admissions Process
There are many ways to get started! You may call for a tour just about any time between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; call or e-mail us to get answers to your questions or ask for an application packet; attend one of our Open Houses; or examine our website. Here are the essential components of a completed application:
Application and Fee: Fill out our application forms and mail them along with a $75 fee ($150 for international students). We recommend that you send along a student photo as well.
Transcripts: Contact your child’s current school and have them send Knox the most current transcript, including all school-required standardized testing results (if available).
Teacher Recommendations: Knox will supply you with three teacher recommendation forms (English, Math, and either the Principal or Guidance Counselor). These are given to the appropriate people and they are confidential, so they are returned directly and sealed to Knox.
Admission Test: All domestic students (those residing in the U.S.) are required to take an SSAT or ISEE admission test. You may contact SSAT at www.ssat.org or ISEE at www.erbtest.org Note that international students may have access to testing sites for these admission tests. If not, Knox will discuss appropriate next steps on a case by case basis. All international students for whom English is a second language are required to submit either SLEP scores (grades 6-8) or TOEFL scores (grades 9-12).
Interview: An on-campus personal interview is preferred as it gives both the student (parents) and the school an opportunity to really meet each other. However, if this is not practical, Knox will arrange a phone interview at an appropriate time. The advantage of having the interview on campus is that the student (and parents) have the opportunity to tour the campus, look into active classrooms, and get a real feel for our community.
The Knox promise is to make the application process efficient and enjoyable. Taking that first step of submitting an application is what really gets things started, and we will be with you every step of the way. Most families find they can complete the entire process, including testing, within two to three weeks. And since Knox is a “rolling admission” school, we can have a non-binding admission committee decision for you just two weeks after completion.
